What is the admission procedure for candidates belonging to Punjab State?
All the admissions at GNDEC are made by Punjab Technical University,Kapurthala with which it is affiliated. The Punjab Technical University hold a Combined Entrance Test hereafter referred to CET. This year this test is being conducted on 2.5.2010 for admission in Engineering courses (B.Tech.) in the Institutions affiliated with this University.

What is the eligibility criteria?
A candidate will be eligible for admission to B.Tech. on the basis of CET merit, if he/she fulfills the following conditions:- a) He/she has passed the 10+2/Diploma or its equivalent examination conducted by a recognized Board/University/Council. The eligibility for engineering courses are as under:- All those candidates who have passed 10+2 examination and with pass in Physics, Mathematics as compulsory subjects and any one of the following optional subjects i.e. Chemistry/Biology/ Biotechnology/Computer Science. OR Those candidates who have passed diploma in any Engineering Trade from Punjab State Board of Technical Education, Chandigarh or Diploma/Certificate course from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology, Longowal (District Sangrur) or such Examination from any other recognised State Board of Technical Education.
How many papers are conducted in entrance test for admission to Engineering courses?
The entrance test is of two hours duration (tentative time : 10 AM to 12.00 Noon). There shall be three Sessions. Each of the sessions I, II & III is of 40 minutes duration. There is no break in between the sessions. The medium of examination is English only. The candidate is to select one answer and mark it on the answer sheet (OMR) with only dark black ball pen/Gel pan. The OMR answer sheets shall be evaluated with the help of scanner and computer software. The candidates are advised not to rub, erase, cut or overwrite on their OMR sheets. Cutting or overwriting in any box used for answering question will be deemed to be an incorrect answer. Marking two or more answers for same questions will be cancelled. The result shall be available on the website and no separate result card are sent. What is reservation criteria for rural area candidates at GNDEC?
70% seats in this Institution are meant for rural area candidate. All the seats (except seats offered to other state candidates) are for bonafide residents of Punjab who have passed their 10+2 examination or qualifying examination from schools & colleges situated in the area of Punjab. They should produce a Punjab Residence Certificate.' Rural area means area located outside the limits of Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committee notified provided-that the village included is converted into or declared Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committee, Notified Area Committee Cantonment Board, Township & University campus after January 1997 shall be treated as rural area for the purpose of these rules. A student hailing from rural area means :- i. His/her parents are permanently residing in the rural area as defined in above para. ii. He/She has studied for a minimum period of 5 years from a recognised/affiliated school located in rural area. iii. He/She has passed 5th/8th/10th or 10+2 from a school/college located in rural area. Sons/Daughters of defence personnel/Ex-defence personnel residing permanently in rural area are exempted from clause (ii) & (iii). For more detail, please refer CET Brochure.
How many seats are reserved for Sikh students at GNDEC?
50% seats are likely to be reserved for the members of Sikh minority community in GNDEC (The case is under consideration in Hon'ble Supreme Court of India).
Give us detail of examination conducted for Sikh Minority Quota students?
50% of B.Tech. seats are exclusively reserved for the candidates belonging to the Sikh community in this College. To avail these seats, the students must fulfill the following conditions:- a) An appropriate score in CET-2009 being conducted by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar b) Minimum 36% marks in the Sikh Religion Examination (SRE) c) A complete Sikh appearance Admission will however be made on the basis of CET-2010 merit. SIKH RELIGION EXAMINATION The Sikh Religion Examination (SRE) will be held on 9.5.2009. Candidates desirous of appearing in this examination must report, in person at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib for the verification of their Sikh identity with the following documents during any working day from 01.05.2009 to 14.5.2009. A) Affidavit under personal oath mentioning that "I belong to Sikh religion, abide by principle of Sikhism, faith in Ten Sikh Gurus and Sri Guru Granth Sahib, maintain complete sikh appearance ("Sikh Saroop"), wear Turban (only for the male candidates), do not cut hair, do have word Singh/Kaur suffixed with the name and do not believe in any other Sect." duly attested by Judicial Magistrate/oath COmmissioner. B) Photocopy of Admit Card of CET-2009 C) Three Passport Size photographs D) Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- in favour of "Coordinator (SRE)" payable at Fatehgarh Sahib/Sirhind. What is the admission procedure for the candidates belonging to States other than Punjab?
Admission will be based on AIEEE merit-the students who are applying under this category need not to take CET. However, they must fill up the CET admission application form of PTU and submit application by the date notified by PTU. Only those candidates with AIEEE score belonging to any other state other than Punjab under this category. The candidate must produce residence certificate of that state for claiming seat under this category.

What is the admission process for M.Tech. courses?
There are two categories of M.Tech. courses being run in the institute i) under AICTE ii) under PTU Regional Centre
Under AICTE Program:
The admission in M.Tech. courses are made by the Institute itself only in the Institution premises i.e GNDEC, Ludhiana. i. The candidates are bound to mark/ sign their presence on the date of counselling and on the subsequent dates of counselling, if any, as notified by the Admission Committee from time to time. Officer Incharge P.G. Courses should notify the next date of counselling in writing to the candidates in the waiting list/ other ''concerned candidates” on the date of previous counselling, with their signatures appended on it. ii. Decisions regarding the provisional admission cases/ doubtful cases due to some discrepancies shall be done ONLY on the date of counselling duly notified to the 'Concerned Candidates' with discrepancy etc./ candidates in the waiting list.

When the brochures and forms will be available at Institute for admission in M.Tech courses?
Brochures and forms will be available from the office of Accou nts Branch, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana on all the working days from 7.30 AM to 1.30 PM.Following conditions are to be met as per AICTE/University/College rules for Full-Time sponsored/Part-Time candidates only. The candidates must have a minimum of two years of full time work experience in a registered Firm/ Company/ Industry/ Education and research Institutions/ any Govt. Departments or Govt. Autonomous organisations in the relevant field in which admission is being sought. ii. There will not be any age restrictions. However preference shall be given to those who are below 45 years of age. iii. A letter from the employer must be furnished stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get admission. The employer should also indicate that the candidate would not be withdrawn mid-way till the completion of the course for all Part-Time candidates and for sponsored Full-Time candidates.

Is financial assistance is extended to M.Tech. students?
Limited GATE scholarships as per GATE merit offered by Government of India will be granted to students who will be admitted to M.Tech. Full-Time Production engineering only subject to availability from ACITE. The candidates selected for GATE scholarship will have to give an undertaking to the effect that he/she has never drawn the GATE Scholarship previously at any Institution in the capacity of having passed GATE examination. If drawn, he/she will have to give number of months for which he/she has already drawn this scholarship and the name of institution from where it was drawn.
What are the terms and conditions to govern the grant of the GATE Scholarship?
a. It will be obligatory for every GATE scholarship holder student to undertake 8-10 hours per week of work related to teaching and research activities as assigned to him/her by the institute. b. Wherever Govt. of India/ University Grant Commission/ Council of Scientific and Industrial Research/ Industry sponsored projects are being undertaken, the services of the students may be used for providing assistance in the projects funded by these agencies. In that event a portion of scholarship for the time being may be charged to the project funds for the duration the students are engaged on these projects. c. The institute (M.Tech. Officer-in-Charge) will work out specific programmes of work and maintain the record of each student. d. The student must secure a first class or equivalent, during the first semester and the second semester examinations to become eligible for continuance of scholarship at the enhanced rate during the second semester and the third semester respectively. e. A student shall be required to give an undertaking to the effect that he/she would not leave the course mid way, in order to be eligible to receive this scholarship. f. During the courses of studies, the student shall not receive any emoluments, salary, stipend, etc. from any other source. g. In no case will the scholarship be allowed for a period of more than the period decided by the Govt. of India. h. Suitable hostel type accommodation may be provided wherever, available. i. No house rent allowance (HRA) is admissible to M.Tech. students. j. The student shall be eligible for Medical facilities as per college rules. k. Foreign students will not be eligible for these scholarships. l. The student shall be entitled for leave for a maximum period of 30 days per year in addition to general holidays but are not entitled to vacations, e.g. summer, winter etc. m. In case of continuous absence without leave for more than a week a student's name will be removed from the college rolls on the intimation of concerned Officer-In-Charge M.Tech. and he will not be allowed to rejoin until a satisfactory explanation is submitted and accepted by the Principal by depositing the readmission fee of Rs. 1000/-. n. The Government of India may impose any other conditions as deemed necessary from time to time. If the conditions mentioned at serial No. a, d, above are not acceptable to a student, he/she will not be eligible to scholarship as mentioned in this Department's letter No. F.12-35.80-T, 4/T, 2 dated 07.12.1984 M.E. (Mech.) specialisation in Production.
What will be the order of merit for admission?
i. GATE qualified candidates in order of GATE merit. ii. If any seats are left vacant the same will be offered to B. Tech. (or, its equivalent) qualified candidates in order of merit (in aggregate marks of all semesters.).
